Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology offers a gentle, non-invasive, long lasting solution for unwanted hair. Based on technology used for nearly a decade in the treatment of birthmarks, IPL has been performed safely for many years, effectively eliminating dozens of hairs with each pulse. We use medical grade, TGA cleared Palomar IPL’s.

The Hair + Skin

IPL will treat unwanted hair safely on most skin and hair types. The light targets the pigment in the hair, the darker the hair and lighter the surrounding skin, the more effective it will be. Light hair or dark skin will most likely need a greater number of treatments. The treatment is ineffective on grey or white hair.

The Treatment

IPL emits intense light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles and is then converted to heat. The heat works to disable the hair follicle cells that are responsible for the growth of the new hair. IPL is passed over the area to be treated delivering heat into the hair follicle. The heat only targets the hair bulb and does not burn the skin. Our IPL delivers effective cooling to the surface of the skin, making it the least painful of all IPL machines, especially when used on sensitive areas.

The Sessions

Multiple sessions are necessary as hair growth cycles vary and not all hair grows at the same time. Only hairs in the active growing (anagen) stage are treated effectively there is also more melanin present at this stage in the hair follicle, therefore light absorption is greater. Over the course of treatments you are able to catch all or most of the hairs in the active (anagen) growing stage. Breaks between treatments should be from 3 to 8 weeks (depending on area treated, hair removal methods previously used and quality of the hair).

The Procedure

Prior to treatment, the hair is shaved. The head of the machine is passed over the area to be treated delivering heat to the hair bulb and does not burn the skin.

The Results

Generally light skin with dark hair receives best results. IPL can treat small and large areas, however, individuals may require a patch test before treatment.  FREE consulations are available!
